Staying at Big Yard Farm
Welcoming and comfortable, generously sized and stylishly appointed accommodation awaits in the three-bedroom brick house. A wide verandah runs along the length of the house, offering shelter as well as easy access to the gardens and is an ideal location for lounging and al fresco dining, depending on the season. The house gardens include rolling green lawns, fruit and nut trees, heritage roses and seasonal bulbs, and a kitchen garden, bordered by century-old pines.
The northeast facing house is powered sustainably and runs almost entirely off-grid with back up if needed. Solar panels on the roof feed into a battery and supply the electricity and hot water plus extra heating, while underfloor heating provides easy warmth during the cooler seasons. Potable water is pumped straight from the fresh Mowambah River and used throughout the house. A Holman weather monitor offers up-to-the-minute data on in- and outdoor temperatures, UV, wind direction and rain and snowfall.
Kitchen Made for Food Lovers
A spacious kitchen is well equipped for the keen cook, with a blue French country style Agar oven a star attraction. Excellent glassware is provided including wine and gin glasses, tumblers and latte glasses. An espresso machine is easy to use and makes great coffee, and a tea pot and selection of leaf teas from Australian company Tea Bar are on hand for tea lovers. Also supplied are a Tiger brand rice maker, Breville pizza oven, KitchenAid mixer with pasta making attachment, large sandwich press, microwave and new fridge.
Adjacent to the kitchen is an informal dining room with eight-seat dining table and one of two open fires. Fireplaces are stocked with wood ready for guests to arrive. Outside, a protected central alcove features a Robert Plumb dining table and bench seats, great for a long, relaxed lunch.
Entertaining + Relaxing
A pool room includes a full-sized pool table which adjoins the lounge room, where another fireplace is stoked and ready to provide warmth and atmosphere. A large TV is set up with Chromecast to allow access to guests’ own favourite streaming channels and a great selection of boardgames and puzzles, the mainstay of a relaxing holiday with family and friends.
Three Generous Bedrooms
Indoors, the main bedroom features an ensuite bathroom and king-sized AH Beard bed, with eco-linen sheeting, doonas and pure wool Bemboka blankets. The country-style ensuite bathroom features a WC, bath and shower, with luxurious Bemboka towels.
A second bedroom features a queen-sized bed and built in wardrobe while the third may be confirmed as a king bed or as two king single beds for friends or children. All beds are made by Australian family bedmakers AH Beard with eco-linen sheeting, doonas and Bemboka blankets. A bathroom, WC and laundry with washing machine and dryer are nearby.
Relaxed Outdoor Dining
For the warmer months, guests can set up an outdoor table and folding chairs with optional sun shelter umbrellas for a garden lunch under the trees, and a small barbecue can be used year-round. Lawn games including boules and a croquet set are ready for long relaxed afternoons.
